Released last year and already considered one of the best games ever, Baldur’s Gate 3 producer Michael Douse has sparked controversy with his statements about the game’s prices. Douse said that he thinks the games are too cheap and that a serious price hike is needed.
Baldur’s Gate 3 creator references GTA
As you know, the launch price of AAA-class productions today is around $60-70. It is thought that Rockstar Games may increase this price by at least $10 as of the release of GTA 6. Baldur’s Gate 3 producer made a statement on the subject and said that prices of $80-90 should become the standard in the industry.
Baldur’s Gate producer Douse made the following statement on the subject:
“I really don’t like the artificiality of post-retail pricing structures. Using an inflated base price to sell subscriptions and trying to make the base price look better by hyping final releases with vague content promises… It all seems a bit dangerous and disconnected from the community.
“I think a game should be priced according to its quality, scope, and depth. I’m not against high prices, but this arbitrary monotony doesn’t make sense to me. It just feels so frivolous. “
“Almost all games need to be more expensive at a basic level, because the cost of producing them (e.g. due to inflation) outpaces pricing trends. But I think we can achieve that with quality and communication, not promises of DLC. It’s like everyone is just waiting for GTA6 to do that. ”
It seems that buying games will soon become a dream in our country. Even now, instead of buying AAA games, players have to wait a long time and add them to subscription systems like Game Pass.
